What is Super Visa?

The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa (Super Visa) is a temporary resident permit that allows parents and grandparents to stay for up to 2 years in Canada per visit. It is valid for up to 10 years. A regular multiple-entry visa is also valid for up to 10 years, but only allows stays of up to 6 months per visit. It should be noted that holders of a Parent and Grandparent Super Visa have the rights and restrictions of a regular tourist visa holder, and as such cannot work or study while they are in Canada.To be eligible for the super visa, you must have some requirements such as

Super Visa Requirements:

  • be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • have a signed letter from your child or grandchild who invites you to Canada that includes:
  1. a promise of financial  
  2.   support for the length of your visit
  3. the list and number of people in the household of this person
  4. a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
  • have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is:
  1. valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry
  2. at least $100,000 coverage
  3. have proof that the medical insurance has been paid (quotes aren’t accepted)

You must also:

  • apply for a super visa from outside Canada
  • be allowed to enter Canada
  • take an immigration medical exam
  • meet certain other conditions
  • a document confirming that you had an immigration medical exam

Note :You can’t include dependants in super visa application.

Financial support (proof of funds)

The child or grandchild who invites the parents/ Granparents must prove that their household meets the minimum necessary income. The following documents are examples of what can be used as proof of funds:

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
  • Employment Insurance stubs
  • employment letter including
  • salary and date of hiring
  • pay stubs
  • bank statements
